Overview

I drove product design from discovery to delivery, translating user, partner, and business insights into meaningful, scalable experiences. I developed comprehensive user flows, created pixel-perfect interfaces, and built interactive prototypes that guided development. As the owner of our design system, I ensured consistency and quality while managing its ongoing evolution and governance. I collaborated daily with product managers, engineers, partners, and global stakeholders to deliver exceptional insurance experiences that served diverse user needs.

The case for a design system


At its core, Open offers a suite of in-house and partner-branded insurance solutions. The Open Design System intends to solve the common problems across our products and serve as a robust foundation for our future users to build upon. As a fast-growing startup - the number of products we provide is growing rapidly, and we need to be able to build and design them at scale.

Everything in our system has to work together in harmony, representing a suite of products that feel cohesive and part of the Open family.






Our first steps towards our design system.


Our flagship product Huddle, and our white-labelled solutions need to be able to reflect our partners' branding effectively. We need to offer the power of configuration to customize the UI to their preferences.

With this in mind, our design system needs to provide a scalable theming solution that is flexible and configurable across different needs

One of the first initiatives. We refreshed design components and applied them to the new Huddle flow, with an eye towards the future: these components will be integrated into the design system which will form the basis across all of Open’s digital properties.







After successfully launching our brand new quote flow, we needed to focus on improving our quote flow design and building method. So we could be prepared for what was coming—establishing a Bupa partnership here in Australia, our first partnership in New Zealand with Slingshot and launching a mayor UK partnership by the end of 2023, among other coming projects.



Our MVP Design System was about to ride it’s biggest wave yet.











One system, for any brand.


Today Open Design System and Raptor allow us to deliver in a couple of weeks a familiar Open experience that works for any brand worldwide. Thanks to these two tools, we have improved dramatically the speed to go to market.






The rules of the game


It’s difficult to make good decisions when the rules are unknown.

We needed to create a set of values and principles based on our mission and business needs that outline the rules of the game.

They guide us to make a better system, all together.

...and, they are not just for the system creators. They are for everyone.
They guide other teams on how to contribute and use the design system.

The Bupa case


Our Design System and Raptor allow us in just 10 weeks, to provide Bupa with an end-to-end solution that delivers the superior, digital customer experience.

Typically, a partnership like this would take double the time to get live.

Our current white label configuration doesn't allow us to reflect our partner's brand deliberately.

That's why we need to refine it, so an Open admin user can create better customisable user experiences that reflect any specific brand effectively.

These improvements will involve updates to some of the foundational Design System components we use on Raptor, and the branding settings interface on Admin.
