I guided the product experience design process with a information architecture designer, creative director, and key stakeholders. I facilitated workshops using landscape reviews, gut tests, mood boards, and concept templates to explore how visual design could authentically communicate Taronga's story. I then collaborated with service design to create wireframes for user testing, ensuring they reflected our content strategy and defined the jobs-to-be-done we wanted to validate. I facilitated mobile-focused usability sessions and documented findings, prioritising mobile testing since it represented most website traffic and helped us identify the most critical content for immediate visibility.

The current website limit’s people’s experience of Taronga rather than enhancing it.

Our vision

Delivering a seamless, user-friendly and visually appealing website that drives core business objectives across commercial and conservation.

Establishing direction

These moodboards are intended to help us find the visual langage of the new Taronga digital experience.

These are examples of how we can create different components, using the visual elements and inspiration we have identified in our creative territory. They aren’t final pages from the website.

They help us interrograte how we use colour, imagery, typography and the use of space to help tell Taronga’s story. And will be what we use to guide our work in the design phase.

Key elements:
Using a range of colours in the page to create visual interest.
Keeping written content feeling bite sized and easy.
Presenting the viewer fun facts and stories about the animals.
Using organic shapes help to create more interesting negative space.
Using different content areas to add engaging visual treatments.

This direction explores introducing each animal as a key member of Taronga’s animal family – using their names and presenting fun key facts as a fun way to learn more about them.
